Cold claims four more lives in U.P.; toll 74

Moradabad was the coldest place in the State

LUCKNOW: With four more persons succumbing to cold since Friday, the death toll during the current cold wave in Uttar Pradesh has mounted to 74.

A fisherman died at Indira Barrage while another person perished in Kakori area of the city. Two persons died in Maharajaganj district, official sources said here.

Schools to reopen

Meanwhile, Director of Education Krishna Mohan Tripathi said all schools in the State would reopen on Monday. According to the local meteorological office, minimum temperatures in most parts of the State were recorded in excess of 11 degrees Celsius, with Agra recording 11 degrees, Bareilly 11.5 and Gorakhpur 12.5.

Lucknow recorded a minimum of 12.8 degrees followed by Kanpur (13.4 degrees), Varanasi 14.6 degrees and Jhansi 15.6 degrees. Moradabad was the coldest place in the State with a minimum of 9.9 degrees Celsius. — PTI
