New power distribution system for Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: In a bid to ensure better power supply in Uttar Pradesh, the State Government has decided to introduce power transmission and distribution system through input based franchisee in urban areas.

A decision in this regard was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday, official sources said here.

The power officials claim that once the system is implemented, consumers will get uninterrupted power supply, besides checking power pilferage.

The system would not only put an end to dangled and old wires but also help in ending long wait for getting a power connection, the officials said.

It would also put an effective check on the corruption prevalent in the distribution of power and remove billing related complaints of the consumers, besides ensuring better and qualitative services to consumers, they added. Under the scheme, the responsibility for strengthening electricity system and distribution network would be of franchisee. -- PTI
