Kerala sweeps short sprints

KOCHI: Kerala made a clean sweep of the boys’ 100m golds through M.M. Sreeraj, Bineesh K. Shaji and A. M. Abdu Samath and won the fastest girl title through E.M. Indulekha, with a record, at the 54th National schools athletics championship here on Friday.

The winners: Senior boys (under-19): 100m: M. M. Sreeraj (Ker) 10.85s. 1,500m: Birsa Oram (Ori) 4:37s. Hammer throw: Harvendra Singh (UP) 57.40m.

Junior boys (under-17): 100m: Binish K. Shaji (Ker) 10.95s. 1,500m: Ramdas Saini (UP) 4:09.36s. 5,000m race walk: L. Sanahal Singh (Mani) 23:14.66s. Hammer throw: Sukhdev Singh (Hary) 58.61m.

Sub-junior boys (under-14): 100m: A. M. Abdu Samad (Ker) 11.69s.

Senior girls: 100m: E. M. Indulekha (Ker) 11.98s NMR, OR K. R. Vinitha Tripathi, Delhi, 12.08s, 1998. 1,500m: Susama Devi (UP) 4:44.05s. High jump: K. Ananthi (TN) 1.68m NMR, OR N. D. Tintu, Kerala, 1.67, 2006. Shot put: Pinki Dey (WB) 12.41m.

Junior girls: 100m: Ranjitha Mahanta (Ori) 12.23s (Ranjitha bettered the meet record in the semifinals clocking 12.12 secs, OR Delhi’s Victoria Aaoka, 12.2, 1979). 1,500m: Preeti (Hary) 4:43.24s. 3,000m race walk: K. M. Meeshma (Ker) 14:12.64s NMR, own, 14:24.4, 2007. High jump: Sreeshma Rajan (Ker) 1.61m.

Sub-junior girls: 100m: Arantxa Mascharenas (Goa) 12.66s. Long jump: Jenimol Joy (Ker) 5.35m. — Principal Correspondent
