Manmohan ordered firm action
Sujay Mehdudia
NEW DELHI: Refusing to yield to the ‘blackmailing tactics’ of the striking Oil Sector Officers Association (OSOA), Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday asked Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora to tackle the crisis with a firm hand and ensure that the common man did not face any problem.
The Congress leadership was also understood to have conveyed to Mr. Deora to take effective steps to deal with the situation.
“The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Petroleum Secretary have been instructed by the Prime Minister to take firm action,” Home Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters.
Mr. Chidambaram said the Centre had advised the State governments to take firm action against those trying to disrupt or hamper the functioning of the petroleum facilities.
