Suma wins gold

THODUPUZHA: Overnight leader Suma Shirur won the women’s gold in the 10m air rifle event of the National shooting championships here on Friday.

Suma, who led the qualification round with 398 points, shot 100.6 in the final to finish with 498.6 points. Priya Narendra Agarwal, who shot 102.5 points in the final, took the silver with 497.5 points.

There was a tie for the bronze medal with both Lajja Gowsami and Radhika Barale finishing with an identical score of 496.5. Radhika, however, won the tie-breaker to take the bronze.

Imran Hassan Khan of Army won the champion of champions in the air rifle event and won a special prize of Rs. 20,000.

Olympian Gagan Narang was leading the free rifle 3 prone position with 1163 points out of a possible 1200 points. Sanjeev Rajput (1159) and Parveen Kumar (1151) were lying in the second and third positions after the qualification round.

Women: 50m air rifle prone: 1. Birmathi (Army (585), 2. Rajkumari (MP) (584), 3. Saini Devi (584).
