Southern Railway triumphs

Chennai: Southern Railway pipped Western Railway by seven points to claim the overall team championship at the All-India Railway weightlifting championships here on Friday.

V. Kumar earned Southern Railway a crucial 75 points in winning the over-105kg category gold medal, in the final event of the championships.

The results:

Total (Snatch + Clean & Jerk): 105kg: 1. A. Marudu Pandian (WR) 310kg (135 + 175), 2. Sanjeev Nehra

(NR) 310kg (145 + 165), 3. P. Murali Krishnan (SWR) 293kg (127 + 166).

+105kg: 1. V. Kumar (SR) 305kg (134 + 171), 2. Koteeshwar Rao (SWR) 290kg (125 +165), 3. Atul Kumar (NR) 286kg (126 + 160).

Team championship (points): 1. Southern Railways 575, 2. Western Railways 568, 3. ICF 508. — Sports Reporter
