Devers is event ambassador

MUMBAI: Star athletes Gail Devers of USA and Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco will be present at the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2009 as event ambassadors, according to a release from the event promoters.

Both are multiple Olympic and World Championships gold medallists.

Devers overcame a thyroid disorder before winning the women’s 100m gold at the Barcelona Olympics and then repeated the feat at Atlanta.

El Guerrouj won the 1500m and the 5000m at Athens.
