KOZHIKODE: Chairman of the National Commission for Minority Institutions Suhail Siddiqui will inaugurate the 31st anniversary celebrations of Markazu Ssaqafathi Ssunniyya (Sunni Cultural Centre) at its headquarters in Karanthur near Kozhikode on January 16. The three-day event coincides with the 14th convocation conference of the Sunni centre headed by Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musaliar. Spiritual conferences, delegates’ session, NRI convention, international Muslim conference, educational meeting, ‘ulema’ conference and a meeting of alumni would be part of the event. Besides religious education, the Sunni Cultural Centre also imparts vocational training, coaching for civil services examinations and management studies, besides arranging programmes in information technology (IT), and charitable and healthcare activities. Markaz president Sayed Fasal Shihab Ali Jifri, Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musaliar, and Sayed Ali Bafaqui Thangal, chairman of the reception committee of the event, told mediapersons that the centre was supporting nearly 10,000 students at its campuses in Karanthur and other States. It also supports many orphans. More than 5,000 orphans have completed their studies at Markaz. Markaz now has a Kashmir Bhavan where children from Kashmir are educated. Markaz has also adopted nearly 700 children from other States. Under its “sweet water project” Markaz has sunk wells in many drought-prone places. The anniversary will begin with Sayed Fasal Shihab Jifri hoisting the flag at 9 a.m. on January 11.
