“Do research on pollution”

KRISHNANKOIL: A call to scientists and engineers to focus on solving people’s problems was given by the member of Union Public Service Commission and former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, E. Balagurusamy, on Thursday.

Inaugurating an international workshop on Graph Labelings organised by the National Centre for Advanced Discrete Mathematics of Kalasalingam University here, Dr. Balagurusamy said problems of population explosion, poverty and pollution should be tackled through research by scientists. Research in graph theory should be oriented towards finding solutions to dwindling natural resources, problems of health care delivery and drinking water distribution and exploitation of energy resources. T. Kalasalingam, Chancellor, Kalasalingam University, presided. C. Thangaraj, Vice-Chancellor, spoke about the significance of the workshop and the participants from abroad. S. Arumugam, Director (Research and Development), welcomed the gathering. K. Sridharan, Pro-Chancellor, proposed a vote of thanks.

A host of delegates from India and abroad, including Mirka Miller from University of Newcastle, Australia, are participating in the workshop, according to a Kalasalingam University press release.
