SAFE AT LAST: The rescued workers display the photo of the social worker who helped them in Malaysia and the papers from the Indian High Commission upon their arrival at the Chennai airport on Thursday. CHENNAI: Half a dozen youths from Tamil Nadu who were ill-treated by their employers in Malaysia returned to Chennai on Thursday. The youths hailing from Villupuram, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts were employed in a hotel in Malaysia since February last year. The youngsters were trained in catering technology and were recruited at Chennai by the hotel owner. After completing a month in the hotel, they asked for their salary but were denied their pay. They were then asked to vacate their rooms in the hotel and were forced to stay in the restaurant. They were also not provided adequate food. They were beaten up whenever they ask for their pay. After some time, they approached the Indian High Commission through a local social worker and filed a complaint. The Commission held an enquiry and asked the hotel management to hand over the passports and other documents belonging to the youths. The documents were handed over only three months later. Meanwhile, the hotel proprietor informed the immigration authorities in Malaysia that the youths did not posses proper documents for staying in the country. The youths were then held by the immigration authorities but with the timely intervention of the High Commission, they were rescued and brought back to Chennai. They are – J. Arockiasamy (28) from Gingee Taluk in Villupuram, M. Thamizhthendral (21), R. Kamal (20) and G. Sivaji (22) from Vellore, A. Infantraj (25) and M. Anbarasu from Tiruvannamalai – had worked as waiters in the hotel located in Johor in Malaysia. The relatives of the youths received them in the airport.
