Warm welcome: New Delhi BJP chief O.P. Kohli being greeted by outgoing president Harsh Vardhan on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Taking over as the new president of the Delhi BJP, Prof. O. P. Kohli on Thursday called upon his party workers to forget about the recent losses in the Assembly elections and look ahead and prepare for securing a victory in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

“There is not much of a difference between the percentage of votes secured by the BJP and the Congress in the Assembly elections. Now the BJP workers should start preparation for winning all the seven seats from Delhi in the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

Prof. Kohli said some changes would be made in organisational structure in Delhi so that the party truly reflects the aspirations of all sections of society.

Noting that the Lok Sabha elections would be fought on the issue of “complete failure” of the UPA Government, the new incumbent called upon his party workers to take the initiative to solve the problems of the people and bring back the smile on the faces which he said had been lost during Congress rule.

Earlier, the outgoing president Harsh Vardhan welcomed Prof. Kohli at the Delhi BJP office on Pandit Pant Marg and offered him the chair of president. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra was among those present on the occasion.

For his part, Dr. Vardhan -- who had been in the post since December 19, 2003 -- said the party workers have been the real assets of the BJP and the real reason for whatever success achieved in the past five years. “For the BJP, politics is only a medium of public service. Power is not the only aim,” he said.
