Tiruchi
Noteworthy: Revathi Sadasivam performing a veena concert at the ’Sapthaprakara Pradakshinam’ festival, in Srirangam. TIRUCHI: The thirst among the music-lovers of Tiruchi in general and Srirangam in particular was quenched to a great extent recently, courtesy the ‘Sapthaprahara Pradhakshinam 2009,’ a festival which falls once in seven years. Organised by Aravamutha Iyengar, Pankajavalli Ammal Memorial Trust, the festival was marked by a special evening session on musical concerts. Apart from noted artistes, up-and-coming and young musicians also got a rare opportunity to exhibit their talents. A young artiste, Revathi Sadasivam, rendered a veena concert during the course of the festival. Exhibiting her talent to a quality audience with a sound knowledge in music encouraged her to a great extent. Commencing with ‘Nattakurichi varnam’, Revathi Sadasivam presented an intelligent performance which was interspersed with popular kirtans. ‘Balagopala’ in ‘Bairavi’ ragam, formed the main part of the concert in which she proved her mastery at ease through a precise performance. Audience was visibly mesmerised in her ‘Vallaba Ramana’ in ‘Hamsadhvani’ ragam. With the ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’ festival in progress at the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in the vicinity, she offered a timely worship through three ‘kirtans’ by Muthuswamy Dikshitar – “Sri Ranganathaya” in Dhanyasi ragam and “Sri Ranganathan” in Puranachandrika ragam and “Ranganayakam” in Nayaki ragam. The concert was blended with kirtans by Swathi Tirunal’s ‘Pankaja Lochana’ in Kalyani ragam ; Saint Thyagaraja’s ‘Manavyala’ in ‘Nalinagantharam’; ‘Venkatachala Nilayam’ in Sindu Bairavi and the Thillana composed by Lalgudi G. Jayaraman in Yamuna Kalyani were some other features. She was accompanied by S. Rangarajan on the mridangam and Andanallur Ranganathan, on the Gatam.
