KOLLAM: Jeeva ’09, the State-level animal husbandry festival of the Animal Husbandry Department, will begin at Karunagappally on Friday. The four-day festival will be inaugurated by Minister for Animal Husbandry C. Divakaran. Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma will inaugurate an exhibition. Festival reception committee chairman, R. Chandrashekaran Pillai and publicity convener B. Aravind said the inaugural function would be preceded by a cultural procession. Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran and district panchayat president K. Somaprasad would address the inaugural function. Actor Sai Kumar would be the chief guest. The exhibition will include more than 200 stalls. On show will be ornamental birds and fish, 30 varieties of pigeons, and pheasants. Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, will host a show on various species of snakes, along with a detailed class on how to distinguish non-poisonous snakes from poisonous ones, the effects of snake poison and treatment. Eggs ranging from that of the ostrich to those of the smallest birds will be on display. Cultural programme have also been organised.
