Bangalore: The 35th junior National volleyball championship for boys and girls will be held at Pandavapura near Mandya from January 11 to 18. “Karnataka is hosting this championship for the fifth time and Mandya will be conducting this tournament for the third time. “The tournament committee and sponsors have stated that there will be prize money for the top three teams though the amount has not been specified yet,” said K. Nanda Kumar, the tournament’s organising secretary at a press conference here on Thursday. The championship will feature 26 teams in the boys’ category and 22 in the girls’ section. Besides the teams, nearly 90 officials including the selection committee members will be present at the championship. Nanda Kumar also stated that the malady of overage would be curbed in the under-18 tournament. “We have an age-screening committee guided by K.T. Abdul Rahiman and we have a specialist in Dr. Rajendran to monitor all the players,” said Nanda Kumar. — Principal Correspondent
