Man held for bid to brew arrack

CHENGAM : One person was arrested on Wednesday for hoarding 45 bags of jaggery to brew arrack at Theethandapattu near here.

Police said that Chengam Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vinayagam, along with Inspector Chinaraj, conducted a surprise raid to nab people brewing arrack at Theethandapattu. Mani (27), belonging to the village, had clandestinely stocked 45 bags of jaggery, each weighing 50 kg, in a hutment. The total value of the jaggery was put at Rs. 40,000.

Police seized the bags and arrested Mani.
