MYSORE: National Youth Day to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda will be celebrated in the city on Monday in a grand manner. More than 3,500 students from various schools will participate in a procession carrying placards with the message of Swami Vivekananda at 3.30 p.m. It will commence from near the Vivekananda statue at Cheluvamba Park and culminate at Ramakrishna Vidyashala where a Yuva Sammelan will be held. Students from various schools will speak on Swami Vivekananda and his ideals at the sammelan. Not many students are aware of Swami Vivekananda’s links with Mysore. He camped in the city for three weeks in 1892 as a guest of the then Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar. The swamiji, who was not well known then, camped at Niranjana Math on Narayana Shastri Road where a national memorial will be built for which the State Government has given budgetary approval. National Youth Day celebrations are being organised by Sri Ramakrishna Ashram in the city, which is spreading the message of Swami Vivekananda on nation-building among the youth through various programmes. A cart carrying the images and photographs of Swami Vivekananda and Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa will be drawn by senior monks of the ashram.
