Weightlifting
Chennai: G. Elumalai of Central Railways won the 69kg gold at the all-India railways weightlifting championships here on Wednesday, his third in successive years. The 25-year-old Elumalai’s total of 285kg (125kg in snatch and 160kg in clean and jerk) was enough to put him comfortably ahead of his rivals, but well short of the 69kg National Record of 298kg (129 + 169), which he set at the 2007 Nationals in Delhi. ICF dominated the 56kg category, G. Veerabadran and S. Mohanasundaram giving it a one-two finish. The results: 56kg: 1. G. Veerabadran (ICF) 245kg (109+136), 2. S. Mohanasundaram (ICF) 239kg (107 + 132), 3. S. Vinoth Kumar (SR) 239kg (109 + 130); 62kg: 1. J. Thiru Kumaran (WR) 264kg (115 + 149), 2. G. Manjunathan (SCR) 264kg (117 + 147), 3. D. Sentamil Selvan (CR) 260kg (115 + 145); 69kg: 1. G. Elumalai (CR) 285kg (125 + 160), 2. S. Aruldoss (WR) 280kg (122 + 158), 3. R. Padmanaban (SCR) 276kg (120 + 156). — Sports Reporter
