PALAKKAD: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will lay the foundations for a BEML Ltd. unit under the Ministry of Defence at Kanjikode here on January 18. Defence Minister A.K. Antony will preside over the function. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim, Minister for Electricity A.K. Balan, Deputy Speaker Jose Baby and others will attend the function. The first stage of the project will be constructed at a cost Rs.260 crore on a 400-acre plot given on long lease by the State government at the Kanjikode industrial area. The first stage of the project will be completed by 2010-12 .
