Long queues are seen at filling stations Petrol stock at most of the outlets gets exhausted VIJAYAWADA: Fuelling the ongoing strike of lorry owners, members of the Oil Companies’ Marketing Managers Association too launched an indefinite strike on Wednesday, which resulted in acute shortage of petrol and diesel. Drivers of four-wheelers and motorcycles waited in long queues to get their turn at the filling stations. By evening, the situation got aggravated and proprietors of the many filling stations hanged ‘no stock of petrol’ signboard outside their outlets. While most of the petrol stock got exhausted in all the 50 outlets in the city and on the outskirts, there is a fewer stock of diesel, thanks to the ongoing lorry strike. Managers and staff of the outlets were unable to give a clear answer to questions from the public who sought to know exactly when the stock would arrive. Even as the lorry strike was going on, oil companies managed to send stock to the outlets with the help of the police till Tuesday. Stir indefiniteHowever, there was no one at the oil companies to oversee the affairs of delivering the stock, as the officials concerned were fighting for the fulfilment of their long-pending demands. As the strike was indefinite, there was no clear picture about the ending of the strike. “The Government has to take decisions on issues pertaining to both the lorry owners and the marketing managers. We are supporting both the parties and their demands are genuine and they deserve a better deal,” said M. Narayana Prasad, general secretary of the Federation of All India Petroleum Traders. He said that the government would be the ultimate loser, as it is losing huge amount of taxes it was getting from the sale of petroleum products.
