Jayanti, Khanna corner glory

NEW DELHI: Jayanti Thapliyal of Ministry of Defence and Amit Khanna of Ministry of Finance were adjudged the best athletes in the women’s and men’s sections respectively in the 44th inter-Ministry athletics meet that concluded at the Central Secretariat ground, Vinay Marg, here on Wednesday.

Jayanti added the women’s 200 metres title to the 400 and 800m gold that she had won the previous day.

Dinesh Rawat of Central Electricity Authority, an international athlete of repute, won the men’s 200m in 22.76 seconds.

Raj Pal of Ministry of Finance won the men’s 10,000m with a timing of 38 minutes 41.50 seconds as he pipped teammate Joginder Singh by five hundredths of a second.

Pradeep Kapoor (1500m), Narender Kumar (triple jump), J. P. Singh (shot put), Deepender Kumar (javelin) and Ajit Singh (400m hurdles) were the other winners in the men’s section.

Poonam Sharma (shot put), Ashima Kapoor (long jump) and Sipra Sahoo (javelin) were the other winners in the women’s section.
