NCA to conduct seminar

Bangalore: The National Cricket Academy will conduct a seminar for specialised coaches of various State associations here from January 13 to 22.

Besides the NCA’s coaching staff led by Dav Whatmore, the refresher program is also expected to feature Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly, Robin Singh, Venkatesh Prasad, L. Sivaramakrishnan and Saba Karim as part of the visiting faculty. The academy is awaiting confirmation from Kumble and Ganguly.

The program will deal with nearly 30 specialised coaches from each segment — batting, fielding/wicket-keeping and bowling inclusive of pace and spin. A Level ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate is the minimum qualification for the participating coaches.

RBI posts win

RBI defeated BEL 2-1 in a State ‘A’ division hockey league match at the KSHA Stadium here on Wednesday.

Mario Kasi and Thanu Nanjappa scored for RBI while Palani’s notched BEL’s lone goal in the 44th minute.

In another match, DBHA held ITI to a 2-2 draw. Vivek Soni and Asif scored for DBHA while Senthil and Somaiah chipped in for ITI.

Harshan scalps five

Harshan bagged five wickets to help Bowlers CC defeat Maharana CC by six wickets in a KSCA Group I, fifth division league cricket match here recently.

The scores: Maharana CC 103 in 33 overs (Harshan five for 31) lost to Bowlers CC 105 for four in 22.4 overs (N. Anjan 42).

Eminent Cricketers 193 in 49.1 overs (Rajnikanth 63, Pramodh four for 46) lost to Modern Cricketers 196 for two in 33.2 overs (Chaithanya 68 n.o., Mani Kumar 58 n.o.).

Cambridge CC 222 in 49.3 overs (Kushal 52, Imriaz 41) lost to Palar CC 226 for eight in 45.5 overs (Neil Darashah 95).

Yankees CC 247 in 49.5 overs (Mani 83, Joseph 41, Sudheer four for 85) bt United CC 218 in 49.5 overs (Yuvaraj 56, Tony Zalki 46, Vijayakanth five for 77).

Bangalore Star CA 211 in 46.5 overs (Vincent 49, S. Amith 47, Nachiket five for 77) bt United Cricketers 151 in 36 overs (Sandeep 61, Rajeev four for 47).

Gandhinagar Cricketers 207 in 48.3 overs (Ganesh 69, Sanath 44, Vinayak four for 52) lost to Sir MVIT College CC 208 for five in 42.3 overs (Chalapathy 45 n.o.)

Inter-collegiate meet

Cathedral PU College will conduct the ‘sportstop’ inter-collegiate meet from January 12 to 15 and the Winter sixes cricket tournament on January 10 and 11. Call 5572656 / 5362085 for details.

Basketball tournament

Talent series

KIMS Tennis Academy will conduct an AITA Talent series tournament (u-16 and 18) in Bangalore from January 26 to 30. The event will be preceded by the State-ranking junior tournament from January 19 to 24. Call Shashikanth Kanbargimath at 98450-49405 for details.

Kabaddi championships

The 20th sub-junior National kabaddi championships will be held in Bangalore from February 5 to 8. Trials to select the State probables will be held on January 8 and 9 at the Vidyapeeta Stadium, Hanumanthnagar, at 8 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.

Coaching-cum-selection camp

A coaching-cum-selection camp for the State football team will be held at the Football Stadium here from January 12. The selected team is scheduled to compete in the 18th Datta Ray Trophy football tournament at Goa in February. Players born on or after January 1989 are eligible.
