Legislature staff want post abolished

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Employees of the State legislature secretariat discharged their duties on Wednesday wearing black badges demanding abolition of the post of Principal Secretary of the Legislature Secretariat and fulfilment of several other demands.

They have threatened to boycott the winter session of the legislature commencing in Belgaum on January 16 if the Government did not fulfil their demands.

In a press release, K.V. Muddaiah, joint secretary, Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association (KSGEA), and M. N. Pillappa, office-bearer of the KSGEA, said there was no post of Principal Secretary in the legislature secretariat of other States.

The Secretaries of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council should be made responsible persons in the administration of both the Houses, they said.

Other demands of the employees included regularisation of services of 43 employees, removal of discrimination in distribution of uniforms to drivers of the Legislators’ Home, filling of vacancies, removal discrimination in the release of revised pay-scale to employees and providing jobs on humanitarian ground for kin of the employees in the case of death during service, the press release added.
