Anticipatory bail for five AIADMK workers

MADURAI: The Madras High Court Bench here on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to five All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam workers accused of indulging in violence during the Thirumangalam by-poll campaign on December 28.

J.D. Vijayan, Nethaji, Balu, Abbas and R. Kannan claimed they had been falsely implicated in the complaint lodged by a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader, who alleged that his car was smashed in the violence.

Justice P.R. Shivakumar adjourned to Friday another bail application filed by AIADMK MLA R. Samy and 51 others. The prosecution had sought time to file a counter affidavit. All the 52 petitioners are lodged in the Central Prison here in an attempt to murder case registered against them on the basis of a complaint lodged by a woman sub-inspector of police on December 29.
