WARANGAL: The grand alliance led by TDP has failed to make any impact in the Warangal Municipal Corporation by-election to the 53rd division. The Congress candidate Baswaraj Kumar won the seat. Mr. Baswaraju Kumar defeated the TDP candidate, Mr. Srinivas, by a comfortable margin of 1, 790 votes. He got 3,157 votes, while the TD nominee polled 1, 367 votes. The total votes polled were 4, 819. For the first time, the TD was supported by the TRS, CPI, and CPI (M) parties, which are all part of the ‘Maha Alliance’. The by-election was taken prestigious both by TDP MP E. Dayakar Rao and Warangal MLA Baswaraju Saraiah and they left no stone unturned in their efforts. Lack of coordination and mutual respect affected the chances of the grand alliance. In the Congress, city Mayor, Errabelli Swarna, the MLA, Mr Baswaraju Saraiah, took the mantle of campaigning on their shoulders and have toured extensively in the division.
