Rallies mark Road Safety Week

CUDDALORE: Rallies were taken out in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts to create awareness of road safety and traffic rules on Wednesday culminating the Road Safety Week celebrations.

At Villupuram, District Collector R.Palanisamy flagged off the rally of students, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, driving school owners and instructors, and other road users at the Collectorate. The participants carried placards with slogans stressing on the importance of adhering to traffic rules and making driving a safe proposition.

The rally passed through main thoroughfares before culminating at the Transport Corporation depot at Villupuram. Additional Superintendent of Police George Isaac Newton and Regional Transport Officer Ramalingam also participated.

In Cuddalore District Revenue Officer R.Natarajan flagged off the rally in the presence of RTO P.Radhakrishnan and Motor Vehicle Inspectors Sudhagar and Velumani.

The rally started at the Collectorate and ended at the main bus stand.

Handbills were issued to those coming to the RTOs for obtaining learners’ licence.

The Cuddalore RTO conducted a training programme for the armed constabulary on traffic management.

As part of the drive against the nuisance caused by vehicles, the RTO officials along with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board officials removed 45 air horns from buses.

They also checked overloading of passengers and warned against rash and negligent driving.
