VISAKHAPATNAM: A State-level meeting of Telugu women writers is being held at Anakapalle on January 10 and 11 in which some reputed women writers are participating. “The meeting is being organised in the background of an argument that feminism in literature, which depicted various new angles in a women’s life, her frustrations and aspirations and analysed various aspects of a woman’s life in political angle, has become sluggish” K.N. Malliswari of the organising committee said at a press conference here on Tuesday. It was also necessary to reactivate feminism in Telugu literature, which prospered for about 20 years since its entry in 1980, in the light of increased attacks and violence on women, she said. Some writers in the city formed a committee `Manalo Manam’ to organise the Telugu woman writers’ conference. An important exercise to be done during the meet was to discuss ways to create a common platform of woman writers in the State to generate a collective response towards social issues and problems, in spite of them having different ideologies. This discussion would take place during the second day of the conference. K. Anuradha and Bhagyalakshmi of Manalo Manam also spoke. About 100 women writers are expected to take part in the conference. The conference would be held on the Indo-American Hotel Management Institute premises near Anakapalle railway station.
