Cameras installed at thermal stations

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The goings-on at Vijayawada Thermal Power Station and Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station (Muddanur in Kadapa district) can now be seen live from Vidyuth Soudha, AP Genco’s State headquarters.

Live cameras have been installed on the flood-light poles at these two vital thermal stations of the Genco which will enable the officials at Vidyuth Soudha to see the movements of particular employees and the work being turned out by them.

This is the first time that such facility is made available in the State for supervising the performance at the thermal stations.

Optic fibre lines used

A. Rama Rao, Executive Director (Information Technology), AP Genco, said they had made this possible by using the optic fibre line available on the 400-KV high voltage transmission lines of the AP Transco up to these stations along with regular supply lines.

Union Energy Minister Jairam Ramesh, he said, was pleasantly surprised at the existence of facility when he reviewed the power sector performance of the State at Vidyuth Soudha on Monday. He inspected the activities at the two thermals stations, clicking the mouse himself.
