Mini-vans to ease impact of strike: Minister

Kanna Lakshminarayana

HYDERABAD: Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana has said that instructions had been issued to the APSRTC to allow transportation of vegetable and milk from the rural areas even as permits were being given to press mini vans into service to move essential commodities.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Lakshminarayana said he had held discussions with the APSRTC officials and office bearers of the Joint Action Committee of the Twin Cities Lorry Owners Association to allow vehicles to ply.

“The truckers associations, who have not joined the stir want protection to transport essential commodities,” he said and added that efforts were on to consult the police to see if security could be provided.

He said the APSRTC officials have assured that there would be no hurdles in moving vegetables and milk in the corporation buses from the rural areas. He also said there would be no disruption of movement of rice and other products for distribution through the public distribution system.

The Transport Minister said the issues raised by the Truckers associations had to be resolved by the Union Government.
