Nagercoil: The officials seized six vehicles so far for illegally transporting minerals. According to the Collector, Rajendra Kumar, the sum of Rs. 3.24 lakh had been collected as fine from the offenders. Steps had already been taken to initiate action against the landowner at Painkulam village in Vilavancode taluk for allowing illegal quarrying of red earth (2968 lorry loads). The officials had been directed to monitor the vehicles, transporting minerals without any valid permits.
