‘Government functioning in a manner which is inimical to democratic values’ SHIMOGA: Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike has condemned the Cabinet decision to withdraw criminal cases filed against those responsible for spoiling communal peace and tranquillity at the hill shrine of Bababudanagiri in Chikmagalur district. In a press release here on Tuesday, convener of the State unit of vedike K.L. Ashok has said that the BJP Government, which came to power by promising to protect Constitutional rights without discriminating against caste or religion, was functioning in a manner that was inimical to democratic values. He said that the criminal cases proposed to be withdrawn were serious in nature as they were registered for disturbing communal amity and peace at the hill shrine by members of the Sangh Parivar by making provocative speeches, resorting to illegal entry to the shrine premises and violating the Supreme Court order. By deciding to withdraw the cases the Government was setting a dangerous precedent, Mr. Ashok said. ChaosMr. Ashok said there would be chaos if progressive, democratic and secular forces did not come together and put up a joint fight against communally provocative activities. He warned of intensifying the agitation if the Government withdrew the cases filed against those who were involved in disturbing communal peace and harmony at the hill shrine.
