Usha emerges fastest woman

NEW DELHI: Usha Radhakrishnan of Ministry of Heavy Industries won the women’s 100 metres with a timing of 16.32 seconds in the 44th inter-Ministry athletics meet at the Central Secretariat ground, Vinay Marg, here on Tuesday.

She won the veterans title as well, with a better time (15.60).

Former National champion Amit Khanna of Ministry of Finance won the men’s 100 metres at 10.90 seconds as he beat Manjeet Choudhary (11.55) and Satish Kumar (12.45) of Cabinet Secretariat.

Jayanti won the women’s 400 and 800m events comfortably, outclassing the field.

Heera Lal (400m), Pradeep Kapoor (800m), Joginder Singh (5000m), Vipin Tyagi (long jump), J.P. Singh (shot put) and R.S. Rathi (discus) were some of the other winners in the men’s section.

Shipra Rai Sahu of Rajya Sabha Secretariat was the other winner in the women’s section as she captured the discuss title with a throw of 15.23m.

Pawah stars for MoD

Annie Pawah won both her singles and doubles matches to help Ministry of Defence beat Ministry of Earth and Science 2-0 in the women’s final of the inter-Ministry badminton tournament at the AIIMS Gymkhana here on Tuesday.

The results:

Men (quarterfinals): Delhi Audit bt Ministry of Steel 3-0; Air Force Headquarters bt Ministry of Finance 3-1.

Women (final): Ministry of Defence bt Ministry of Earth and Science 2-0 (Annie Pawah bt Sunita 21-4, 21-7; Annie & Meera bt Malini & Kavita 21-13, 21-13).
