Mulimani and Deputy Commissioner K.S. Satyamurthy are seen. Gulbarga: Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Tuesday said that institutions of higher educations have a significant role to play in building a stronger India by producing quality human resource to face the emerging challenges after the advent of the globalisation and privatisation. Speaking after inaugurating the sports hostel and laying the foundation stone for the Rs 1.75 crore worth building to house the Department of Studies in Commerce at the main campus of the Gulbarga University, the Governor said that teachers have the onerous responsibility to rise up to these challenges by equipping themselves in spite of the constraints and strive hard to achieve excellence. Mr Thakur said only when the teachers equip themselves with the latest developments in their area of specialisation can they impart quality education and mould the lives of students. Commending the efforts of the Gulbarga University in this direction, the Governor said that the university had been acting like a beacon of light spreading the knowledge in the educationally backward region of Hyderabad-Karnataka region. “Gulbarga University has been doing extremely well and I record my satisfaction in witnessing its steady academic progress,” he said. Mr. Thakur became nostalgic for a while and remembering his student days, he said he was also a student of commerce and had special interest in learning commerce and mathematics. Referring to the Department of Commerce in Gulbarga University, the Governor noted that the department, with its history of over three decades, had rendered yeomen service in this discipline facilitating students to pursue Phd and M.Phil courses. He observed that the teachers had published many articles in different journals. While congratulating the faculty of the Commerce Department, the Governor said that the faculty should work hard to keep pace with the developments taking place in the field of business and industry all over the world. He said that the physical education and sports had metamorphosed as an important discipline at all levels of education and expressed his happiness about the vibrant presence of this component in the Gulbarga University. “Physical education is not just another subject but an essentiality in building a strong youth force”. Vice-Chancellor B.G. Mulimani welcomed the gathering and Registrar Pratap Singh Tiwari proposed a vote of thanks.
