Varna Virasat begins today

Exquisite: A painting exhibition is on as part of Alva’s Nudisri which was inaugurated on November 30 in Moodbidri near Mangalore.

MANGALORE: Twenty-five artists from all over the country will participate in Varna Virasat, which begins on Wednesday to coincide with Alva’s Virasat.

Artists chosen for the painting camp are from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

The painting camp will be held for six days.

The paintings of the artists will be exhibited.

There will be lectures by art critics.

Between 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m., there will be slideshows and interactions with the artists for the benefit for art lovers.

Around 10,000 art lovers are expected to visit the exhibition, according to president of Alva’s Educational Foundation Mohan Alva.

It will be held at Mijar on the outskirts of Moodbidri near the venue of Alva’s Virasat.

The national-level camp was being organised to promote painting, Mr. Alva said in a statement.

Varna Virasat will be inaugurated at 11 a.m. J. S. Khande Rao, Chairman of the Karnataka Lalithakala Academy, will preside over the inaugural function.

Ravindra Salve, member of the Lalithkala Academy, New Delhi, will be the chief guest of the function.

Sathyapal, secretary, Kerala Lalithkala Academy, will inaugurate the camp. Artist Bhaskar Rao will preside over the valedictory function on January 12 at 11 a.m.

Milan Desai and J.M.S. Mani, members of the Lalithkala Academy, New Delhi, will be the chief guests of the function.
