Easy win for Hyderabad Sporting

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Sporting recorded an easy 3-0 win over State Bank of India in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at Gymkhana Grounds here on Monday.

Sporting took the lead in the fourth minute when Ahmed scored with a long-ranger. Within seven minutes, Imran increased the lead.

Talha came up with a fine effort just before the break to score the third goal for the winners.

Nagaraju, Rajyalaxmi win

J. Nagaraju of Khammam and R. Rajyalaxmi of Hyderabad won the men’s 12 km and women’s eight km events respectively in the 43rd AP State cross-country championship held in Mancherial (Adilabad), according to information received here.

Sarva Sresta Tirupathi, Assistant Superintendent of Police, gave away the prizes.

Giyasuddin shines

Centre-forward Giyasuddin struck three goals to fashion TPI Ltd’s 5-2 win over Nehru Club in the B-Division hockey league championship at Gymkhana Grounds here.

Full-back Arvind Kumar and right-in Swaraj Kumar scored one goal apiece to complete the tally for the winners while centre-forward Shahrukh and right-out Kamal reduced the margin for the losers.

In another match, Coronation Club defeated BHEL Ramachandrapuram 3-2. Right-in Arjun, left-in Munuswamy and full-back Anil were the scorers for Coronation. For the losers, Samad and Ravinder scored one goal apiece.

Good spell by Shakti

A good spell by Shakti Yadav (five for 50) helped Cheerful Chums XI record a four-wicket win over PBCC in the A-Division one-day league cricket championship here.

The scores: PBCC 187 (Prasad 59, Shakti Yadav five for 50) lost to Cheerful Chums XI 188 for six (Rajesh 55, Vijaykrishna 50).

Simultaneous chess

Cyber Chess Academy conducted a simultaneous display with Super GM Krishnan Sasikiran and 30 children taking part in it. With the exception of Deeptamsh Reddy of the Academy who held the Grandmaster to a draw, all the others lost the games.

Later, Sasikiran appreciated IM Lanka Ravi who runs the Academy, for organising the event.

AP weightlifting meet

Andhra Pradesh senior State weightlifting championship for men and women will be held at Saroornagar indoor stadium on January 10 and 11, according to N. C. Mohan, deputy director of Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh. The State teams to take part in the Senior nationals to be held in Pune will be picked based on the performances in the meet.

Cross-country

Andhra Pradesh Amateur Athletic Association will organise a cross-country meet (12 km) in Medikondur mandal of Guntur district on January 18 from 4.00 p.m, according to Ranga Rao, secretary of APAAA.

The winner will get Rs. 5000, the second-placed Rs. 4,000 and the third-placed Rs. 3000. Entries should be sent by January 10 and should be sent to Sivagandhara Rao, PET, SGVR High School, Perecharla, 522009. For details contact Ph: 93953 66619.

Big win for Indus

Indus World School recorded a nine-wicket win over Maha Bhootia School in the inaugural Deccan Chargers inter-school sports meet which began in Hyderabad.

The results: Cricket: Maha Bhootia 87 lost to Indus World School 88 for one.

Tennis: Under-12: Kritina Mani Konda (DPS) bt Milind Kesar (Vidyaranya) 8-2.

Under-10: M. Keerthisashank bt Aman Kumar 8-5; D. Nairuthi Reddy bt K. Gaurav 8-2; G. Raghav Chainulu bt Abdul Adnan 8-0.

Girls: Under-10: Rachana Reddy bt K. Navya 8-1; C. Shravya bt Juliana Peter 8-1.

Under-12: G. Meha bt B. Rashmi 8-1.

YPL inaugurated

Ambati Rayudu, who represented Hyderabad Heroes in the Indian Cricket League, on Monday formally inaugurated the Youth Premier League, a knock-out cricket tournament featuring top 10 college teams of the twin cities here.

The event is organised as part of the month-long YoMania festival of BBS Studios and Brand Strategies.

The teams: St. Mary’s (Yousufguda), CBIT, Aurora College, PDS MIT College, Methodist Engineering College, Indoor Institute, St. Paul’s Degree College, St. Mary’s Engineering College, JNTU Engineering and Deccan Engineering College.

T20 cricket
