NEW DELHI: The Chief Ministers of the States ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its partners in the National Democratic Alliance met at the residence of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, L.K. Advani, here on Monday to work out a common approach ahead of the meeting of Chief Ministers called by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Briefing reporters after the meeting, BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley said the Chief Ministers expressed concern about the internal security scenario. The United Progressive Alliance government had failed on this front. It was the view that a tough terror law was enacted only after the Mumbai terror attack although it should have been in place years ago — in fact, a tough terror law, the Prevention of Terrorism Act, was repealed by the UPA. Various suggestions will be made by the NDA Chief Ministers to strengthen internal security at the State level, Mr. Jaitley said. The meeting on Monday was essentially called by Mr. Advani to ensure that NDA Chief Ministers speak in one voice at the meeting. A BJP spokesperson said that Orissa’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik could not attend the meeting as his flight was delayed and Punjab’s Parkash Singh Badal could not come as he was ill.
