Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The State Cabinet has approved the allotment of 210 acres of land in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) here to the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) for the establishment of its first campus outside Mumbai.

According to an MoU signed by TIFR with the UoH recently, the TIFR will develop this campus with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore over a period of 12 years.

Briefing reporters after a Cabinet meeting here on Monday, Information Minister A. Ramanarayan Reddy said the land was allotted in line with the proposals submitted by the TIFR to implement its expansion plans in the spheres of research, education and other scientific activities.

Advisory panel

An academic advisory committee would be constituted soon with members from TIFR and the University of Hyderabad to foster cooperation between them in research and teaching. The two institutions would jointly conduct seminars, workshops and conferences.
