No praise in anybody’s honour and no shawls or bouquets
GET-TOGETHER: Madras High Court Judges (from right) F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla, M. Jaichandren, K. Venkataraman and N. Paul Vasanthakumar at the party in Madurai on Monday. MADURAI: A group of Madras High Court Judges gathered at the meeting hall of its Madurai Bench on Monday along with an assemblage of judicial officers, law officers, advocates and court staff. But no formal speeches were delivered, no praises sung in anybody’s honour and no shawls or bouquets. The first working day of the year, after the Christmas vacation, began with a difference for the High Court Bench. The Judges, led by F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla, hosted a completely informal tea party to welcome the New Year and wish better prospects for everyone associated with the judiciary here. Judges Chitra Venkataraman, N. Paul Vasanthakumar, M. Jaichandren, S. Rajeswaran, P. Murgesen, S. Tamilvanan, K. Venkataraman and P.R. Shivakumar mingled with the crowd freely, shook hands with every other person in the gathering and exchanged pleasantries much to the delight of the attendees. Mr. Kalifulla, administrative judge of the Bench, went a step further and did not take his seat even for a moment. Isaac Mohanlal, President, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court Bar Association, said: “It augurs well…We hope this kind of meetings will take place often.”
