TIRUCHI: ‘Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi,’ a new political party with the backing of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK), will be launched at Tambaram in Chennai on February 7. TMMK general secretary S. Hyder Ali and the organisation’s State secretary Abdus Samad will be the general secretary and treasurer of the new party. Announcing the decision to reporters after the TMMK’s 13th general body meeting here on Sunday evening, its president M.H. Jawahirullah said application for registration of the party had been forwarded to the Election Commission. TMMK members would be allowed to become members and office-bearers of the party. The aimThe party was being launched to create corruption-free politics and would work not only for the welfare of the minority communities but also for the welfare of the oppressed and backward classes. Mr. Jawahirullah said the TMMK would back the DMK candidate in the Thirumangalam by-election. A total of 35 resolutions were adopted at the general body meeting, attended by 3,000 members from various districts. One of them urged the State government to take steps to increase reservation for Muslims to six per cent.
