CHENNAI: The police on Monday arrested 10,819 persons, including 5,000 women, for resorting to road blockade in front of Collecotorates and Tahsildar offices in the State. They were released in the evening.

CPI (M) State secretary N. Varadarajan and Centre of Indian Trade Unions general secretary A. Soundararajan were among those arrested in Chennai.
The agitation took place at 83 places in the State, according to an official release. — Special Correspondent
