217 AMVI posts to be filled: Minister
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: After their successful foray into a variety of fields, including agriculture, the newly recruited assistant motor vehicle inspectors are bracing to take up the complex task of checking Motor Vehicle Act violations and ensuring road safety.
Of the total 34 newly recruited AMVIs of 2008 batch, four were engaged in agriculture earlier and the remaining in business and engineering jobs in private firms till their selection as AMVIs. Minister for Transport Kanna Laxminarayana inaugurated a comprehensive training programme for the new AMVIs here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the long pending recruitment process was completed following constant pursuing of the matter. Another recruitment drive has been initiated to fill up 217 AMVI posts, he said.
“Not even a single woman AMVI was selected in the earlier recruitment due to the mandatory requirement of possession of heavy motor driving licence.
Hence, the government has relaxed the regulation to allow women candidates produce the heavy motor driving licence within one-and-half year after their selection,” he said.
