Ansar Women’s College leads university fete

Thrissur: Ansar Women’s College, Perumbilavu, was leading with a tally of 72 points when the results of 44 events were declared at the Calicut University D-Zone Youth Festival at the Guruvayur Sree Krishna College on Monday.

Sree Krishna College and Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, came second and third, scoring 37 and 34 points, respectively. Cine actor-director Madhupal inaugurated the festival, in which about 6,500 students from 65 colleges were participating.

In all, 89 items would be performed at four venues, named ‘Chilanka’, ‘Thiraseela’, ‘Neelambari’ and ‘Keli’. Competitions in Bharathanatyam, other classical dances (Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathak, Manipuri), group dance (women), mime, tableau, fancy dress, drama (Malayalam), classical music (men and women) and group music were held on Monday.

The following are the winners of some of the events (in the order of first, second and third prizes): Classical music (Men): K. Viswanathan, Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, Thalakkottukara; K.D. Divil Das, Dr. John Mathai Centre, Thrissur; O. Radhakrishnan, Dr. John Mathai Centre, Thrissur.

Classical music (women): Sarika Gireesh, Prajyothi Niketan, Puthukad; Priyadharsini, Vimala College, Thrissur; Krishna Rajan, IES Engineering College, Chittilappilly; Mime: Vidya, Academy of Science and Technology, Thalakkottukara; Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur; Carmal College, Mala, and Christ College, Irinjalakuda; Bharathanatyam: B. Aparna, IES Engineering College, Chittilappilly, and Revathi Nair, Vimala College, Thrissur; P.S. Shabana, Government College, Kuttanellur; P. Krishna Priya, Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur; Tableau: Christ College, Irinjalakuda; M.D. College, Pazhanji; Royal Engineering College, Thrissur;

Off-stage events Ansar Women’s College, Perumbilavu, scored the maximum points in the off-stage items held at M.D. College Pazhanji.
