Letters to the Editor
This refers to the report that Home Minister P. Chidambaram plans to carry a dossier on the involvement of some elements from Pakistan in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks during his visit to the U.S. One wonders what purpose it will serve when Pakistan is in denial mode. The U.S. is no doubt the mightiest country and all nations want its support to take on terrorism. But it is well known that Washington sings a different tune while addressing Islamabad. A.R. Karthyck, Bangalore The business of handing over evidence of the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the 26/11 attacks — India to the U.S., the U.S. to Pakistan, India to Pakistan and so on — is an effort at procrastination. The UPA government is buying time in the hope that the anti-government feeling will die down before the elections. And the U.S. wants to keep the fire between India and Pakistan burning in order to thwart the IPI pipeline. Sandeep Gopalakrishnan, Ernakulam India is neither an American protectorate nor a colony. Why, then, should our politicians turn to it whenever there is an act of cross-border terrorism? Pakistan understands force and only overwhelming force. Unless India attacks and destroys all known terrorist camps in PoK and other areas to teach Pakistan a lesson, the ISI-military combine will continue to escalate terrorist attacks. C.P. Anandasubramanian, Chennai The biggest challenge facing India is terrorism. Many solutions have been suggested to tackle it. Some solutions are military and some diplomatic. But the real solution lies in understanding the agenda of terrorists, which is to get their ideology to overtake the ideology of democracy. The best way to defeat terrorism is to show that even in these trying times, we are steadfast in our principles. Despite provocation, we should adhere to the rule of law. Ankur Garg, Chandausi
