SUCCESSFUL: The 10-day NCC sailing expedition on its return to Thevally in Kollam on Monday. KOLLAM: Completing a 10-day, 410-km sailing expedition through inland waterways, 45 cadets of the Naval unit of the National Cadet Corps returned to Thevally on the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake here on Monday. During the expedition, the team helped in saving the lives of 14 tourists on a boat that capsized at Kuthiyathode on January 1. The tourists were celebrating New Year. Commander L. Robin Netto, team leader, said the people of Kuthiyathode appreciated the timely intervention of the cadets. The 30 boy and 15 girl cadets were from Fatima Mata National College and S.N. College here and D.B. College, Mannar. They sailed through the Ashtamudi, Kayamkulam, Punnamada and Vembanad lakes to reach Aroor. They turned back from Aroor on Friday. At Thevally, NCC Group Commander N. Balan received them. He congratulated the team for the successful expedition and saving lives.
