Solidarity: Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed inaugurating a meeting organised to express solidarity with the people of Palestine, in the city on Monday. KOZHIKODE: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has stepped up its campaign in support of the people of Palestine and announced it would be observe Palestine Day on January 9. Various programmes would be organised by all party units across the State to register their protest against the Israeli attack on Palestinian people in Gaza, a press release issued here said. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, IUML State president Panakad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal said India should snap all ties with Israel, as that country’s attacks on the people in Gaza were inhuman and most uncivilized. At the press conference, IUML leaders, including State general secretary K.P. Kunhalikutty, declined to answer questions about Indo-Israeli co-operation on various fronts, including the launch of an Israeli satellite from India and the ties in the area of science and technology at a time when the IUML had representation in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre. Pro-Palestine policy“Indian policy had been pro-Palestine. All other questions will be answered later,” Mr. Kunhalikutty told mediapersons. Later in the day, Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed, who is also IUML all-India president, inaugurated a convention at Muthalakulam Maidan to declare solidarity with the people of Palestine.
