Wakf Board being defiled: KNM

Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: The Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) has expressed concern at what it perceives as attempts being made by the State government to pollute the sacred character and purity of the Wakf Board and the Haj Committee.

“It is a pity that the Wakf Board and the Haj Committee are being used for narrow political gains,” a spokesman of the organisation alleged.

He said it was strange that organisations such as the Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen which had been engaged in programmes for the renaissance of the Muslim community were being ignored and radical outfits accommodated in organisations meant to work for its welfare.

A convention of the organisation here on Sunday adopted a resolution condemning the government on the issue.

Another resolution emphasised the need for programmes to eliminate the influence of superstitions in the Muslim community. Islamic scholars should strive for unity among Muslim organisations.

In another resolution, the convention condemned the Israeli attacks on Palestinians in the Gaza strip.

“The failure of the United Nations to prevent these inhuman attacks will damage its credibility,” the resolution said.

The convention expressed the view that governmental action to eradicate the factors that gave rise to terrorism and militancy was as important as action to crush terrorists.

T.P. Abdulla Koya Maudhany was re-elected president and A.P. Abdul Khadir Maulavi general secretary of the organisation. This is Mr. Maudhany’s fourth term as president.
