KADAPA: District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu on Monday called upon sarpanches, panchayat secretaries and extension officers of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development to strive to secure Nirmal Gram Puraskar for their respective gram panchayats. Addressing a meeting on rural water supply and sanitation at Kalakshetram here, he said 15 panchayats in the district bagged the award last year. People should be enlightened that 80 per cent of diseases are caused by drain water stagnation and public defecation. Gramaikya sanghams, youth clubs and educated persons should cooperate in this regard, he said. The Collector felicitated some sarpanches whose panchayats bagged Nirmal Gram Puraskar.
