HASSAN: Belur Town Panchayat president B.C. Manjunath led a delegation of councillors to the Urban Development Secretary in Bangalore on Saturday and submitted a plan for Rs. 14 crore for the development of Belur town. He also urged the secretary to release the amount expeditiously. Speaking to The Hindu here on Monday, Mr. Manjunath said Belur was an important tourist centre and a large number of tourists, including foreigners, visited the place daily. However, it lacked infrastructure and there was a need for taking up development work. The plan included fixing high mast lights at five places at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh, three welcome arches at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh, five “sulabh souchalayas” at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh, buying land at a cost of Rs. 80 lakh for the weekly shandy, and drawing an express power line to the town at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh. Mr. Manjunath said that he had also requested the secretary to take up road and drainage works.
