Good luck: Jagat Ram, GM, Punjab National Bank - MSME Division, New Delhi, handing over loan sanction document to an entrepreneur in Tiruchi on Sunday. He is flanked to his left and right by S.M. Veerappan, Circle Head, Circle Head, PNB, and N. Srinivasulu, Assistant Director, MSME, respectively. TIRUCHI: The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (MSME-DI) and Punjab National Bank have achieved 90 per cent success rate in mainstreaming trained participants of their Skill Development Programme of six-weeks duration into entrepreneurship. Of the 40 persons identified for the programme, 36 emerged successful in fulfilling requirements to receive the loan. While loans were disbursed to eight participants, the rest who were yet to fulfil certain formalities were given loan sanction letters. The General Manager of PNB – SME Sector, Head Office, New Delhi, Jagat Ram, handed over to the participants cheques and sanction letters pertaining to the entire extent of loans amounting to over five crore rupees, on Sunday. Inputs were provided to the participants on 20 aspects including characteristics of entrepreneurs, personality development, SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis, communication skills, principles of marketing, market analysis, registration of micro and small enterprises, preparation of project report and financial statements, documentation requirements for financial assistance, and guidance on banking norms and transactions. The prospective entrepreneurs were also exposed to the details of government policies and schemes: MSME definitions, role of MSME in Indian Economy, Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, MSME policy of State Government, and Credit Fund Guarantee Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises, and National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme schemes. Purpose of financial inclusionAppreciating the organisers of the training programme for achieving the successful conversion rate, Mr. Jagat Ram, who presided over the loan disbursal function, said that the purpose of financial inclusion will be served only if the entrepreneurs, in the initial phase of risk and challenge, are faithful in their dealings with the bank. The PNB, he assured, will sustain its support to MSME customers with viable projects, provided they openly share the problems they face with the bank. S.M. Veerappan, Circle Head, PNB, said the exposure of the Circle to MSME was to the tune of Rs. 525 crore as on December 31, 2008, and was poised to surge higher. Those who have received the in-principle loan sanction letters will receive their cheques in a month’s time, once they complete finalisation of their project reports, Mr. Veerappan said. N. Srinivasulu, Assistant Director, MSME – Development Institute, said that people with the right aptitude were chosen for the training programme, and urged the prospective entrepreneurs to courageously face the ups and downs in practical situations. He thanked the PNB for its overwhelming support to the initiative.
