NEW DELHI: Fog continued to play havoc with air and rail traffic with over a dozen flights cancelled and trains running late by several hours on Sunday.

Low visibility procedures were enforced at Delhi airport during Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday following a dip in visibility because of fog.

According to an official release, 10 flights, eight of them domestic, were diverted, 13 flights, including 11 international ones, were rescheduled and 17 flights, 13 of them domestic, were cancelled.

While runway 28 was in use during LVP for both departures and arrivals from 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, runway 29 also became operational for arrivals during LVP from 5:30 a.m. onwards.

According to airport sources, LVP was implemented for about 16 hours between Saturday and Sunday and about 275 flights operated during that time.

Rail services too continued to be disrupted with about four trains cancelled and 14 rescheduled on Sunday. They included the Neelanchal Express, Jharkhand Express, New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express, Ranchi Rajdhani, Poorvanchal Express and the Sealdah, Howrah and Guwahati Rajdhanis.

About 12 trains, including passenger trains, were running behind schedule on Sunday, according to Northern Railway.

“The average period of delay ranged between four and six hours,” said a Northern Railway spokesperson.
