One killed in accident

COIMBATORE: K. Manikandan (28) was killed when the ambulance in which he was travelling collided with a bus at Kalivelampatty Pirivu at Palladam in the district on Sunday.

The Palladam Police said the driver of the ambulance, K. Thangavel, was in a serious condition with head injury and multiple fractures.

He was admitted to a private hospital in Coimbatore city. The police said the incident occurred in the afternoon when the ambulance, belonging to K.R. Hospital in Periyanaickenpalayam, was returning from Kangeyam after delivering the body of a patient. Manikandam was working as a compounder in the hospital. Five passengers of the bus sustained injuries and were admitted to hospitals at Palladam.

Houses gutted

Two houses in Lakshman Nagar, Gandhipuram Second Street, were gutted on Saturday. On information, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and battled for nearly an hour to put out the fire. The houses belonged to Suryadas and Biswendran. Cause of fire is under investigation.
